Meet Heather Macy
Heather Macy is a leading elite performance coach and one of only 300 EQ-certified basketball coaches in the country. In addition to one-on-one coaching and consulting, she currently travels around the country educating teams, coaches, and organizations on how to use EQ to become an elite performer. Several of these presentations are now published on CoachTube.com for download. She has been a speaker at some of the top coaching clinics and professional development events in the country, including USA Basketball and Nike Championship Clinics.
Coach Macy is also a frequent speaker at corporate and leadership events on the topics of leadership, teamwork, accountability, and discipline. She hosted a 1-hour weekly Rising Coaches TV series that discusses her book, Two Feet Forward: Everyday Lessons in Leadership. This book was a #1 new release in basketball coaching on Amazon.
In addition to her degree from Greensboro College, Macy also holds an M.S. in human performance and recreation with a concentration in administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. Combined with her EQ Certification, in the spring of 2020, Coach Macy also received a specialization in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
With regard to basketball, as a 25 year college coaching veteran, Coach Macy is currently the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Barry University in Miami, Florida. Prior to Barry University, Coach Macy was named Assistant AD and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC, her Alma Mater.
In her three years at her Alma Mater, Macy, was named the 2022-2023 USA South Coach of the Year, and led Greensboro back to the top of the USA South Athletic Conference. Her final season at GC, she guided her team to a 26-3 overall record, while going undefeated in the conference at 18-0. The Pride went on to win both the regular season and tournament championships, while qualifying for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015. Not counting the COVID-altered 2020-21 campaign, Greensboro, and their 18-0 USA South record, are the first to go unbeaten through a Conference schedule since Christopher Newport also posted an 18-0 record during the 2009-10 season. The 18 League wins tie the program record for most in a single-season. Macy ended her tenure at Greensboro College with an impressive 51-5 record over only 2 seasons.
Prior to Greensboro, Macy spent time as the head coach at Spartanburg Methodist in the NJCAA, at NCAA D-I East Carolina, and D-II Francis Marion and Pfeiffer. She has compiled an overall record of 327-178 mark, including 306-170 as an NCAA coach. Macy has led her teams to seven conference championships, winning seven coach of the year honors, three conference tournament championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances. In her eight seasons at East Carolina, she went 134-117, becoming the winningest coach in Pirate history.
In addition to her time as a head coach, Macy also spent time as an assistant coach on the Division I (High Point and UMBC) and Division II levels, which started at Catawba College immediately following her graduation from Greensboro College.
While obtaining her B.S. in sport & exercise studies (Cum Laude) from Greensboro, Macy was a four-year member of the Pride women’s basketball team. During her playing career, Macy placed her name in the Pride’s record books for three-point field goals attempted and made, while also ranking ninth in all-time games played with 105. She was also inducted into the Greensboro College Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 1996 women’s basketball team on March 31, 2012. In addition to the Greensboro College Hall of Fame, Macy was also inducted into the Starmount High School Hall of Fame.
When Coach Macy isn’t on the court, coaching elite performers, or training herself she enjoys spending time with her 2 fur babies, Ripley Rose and Max Moses. She is now the author of 2 Books, is active in her local church, and loves her team, family, and friends. God is at the center of everything she does and knows that is key component to her being Elite.
